its not easy making jams that really work the crowd just as well in bristol as in berlin. nor any other city for that matter. its those crossover artists that really stand out for us with tunes that do so much more than just ride the wave of whats hot. enter the organ grinder and his sick 3track ep for heist.
jm aka jonny miller, a prolific uk producer with over 23 years in the game shipped over four killer reworks to the gamm headquarters a while back. after the first listen we were immediately hooked. with tasteful measures jm have taken some of our favourite fela kuti, d angelo, weldon irvine and bill withers tunes and turned them into something new and highly exciting. you cant get more gamm than this ... proper!
the los angeles based steve huerta popped up on the sccucci manucci radar via his releases on the formidable amadeus records and dirt crew recordings, we tracked his progress and liked what we heard. a couple of months back we handed over the keys to mr. manuccis penthouse apartment and sl 230 pagoda to the young angeleno, and in-between being fitted for smoking jackets and hand made brogues he managed to get some productions complete with the results pressed up for the fifth release on manuccis mistress.

since the early 80s maddisco has been heavily into hip hop and electro, recording his favourite stuff from the radio until the late 80s when he started collecting vinyl and djing, chicago house and detroit techno were the first genres he went for after hearing them at the club rip in clink street, quickly followed by balearic, disco, funk, dub and ambient music some of which he heard at danny ramplings club shoom
incredible double a sided reissue on tiny early eighties new york imprint small axe. side a features the awesome boogie funk of *throwdown* by larry harris, a phat floor-filling monster which always changes hands for big bucks in auctions. on the flip we get another in-demand bomb - the sparkles *trying to get over*, a superb soulful disco groover with great vocals and synth hooks. originally released way back in 81 and produced by the strikers darryl gibbs, this killer cut still remains a firm favourite of many in the know disco djs. top stuff!
using rolling percussion and a thumping kick, primo really is unbeatable! luigi uses synth stabs that add character and finesse to this outstanding piece of music. hypnotizek rounds off the ep being more upfront about where its going. this cheeky, groove based track will warm up a dance floor quickly and get people in the mood for a real party!

you have got to love a label sampler where the artist field says various. it simply means you are not going to get any padding. you wont find any pointless stuff on your plate, just a collection of a-sides from different producers and in this case, the four servings of meat on this one dish are of particularly high, organic value.
new york techno producer shawn o sullivan makes his return to l.i.e.s. under his vapauteen moniker. after an amazing release on avian as 400ppm and a collaborative effort on the corner with beau wanzer, here we get o sullivan turning down the bpms and slowly crushing everything in sight. the a-side provides three tracks of unforgiving modular slowcore beat electronics which trudge their way to the grave, while the b-side is strictly about power electronics and harsh tone work outs. sure to piss off someone on the internet or better yet, in real life.

re.you is back amongst the mobilee fold with a third instalment of his signature dark and heavy-hitting dancefloor beats. his masterful ep mind your head topped the charts in 2012, and this years drum-heavy summer smash anyway remains a firm dj favourite, even as the nights get longer and the season comes to a close.
second release from woodsmen & lady log with a four track deep, slow, dubby and hypnotic house ep. make sure to get your hand of this limited edition of 300 hand-numbered copies.
a 4-track package traversing house and techno. first up jour de fete, a reference to the black and white 1940s french comedy perhaps a clue to mr georget one things for sure this is toe-tapping house. taking its time to perfectly build up the progression towards smooth outbursts of wailing sirens. 6eme etape is another fine example of get-up-and-dance house, theres plenty of driving drum kick and jazzy key chords, nicely pulled back and interrupted, to drop back in again with a renewed energy. poil de renard on the other hand immediately marks out its territory among the german minimal and micro house space. strong, syncopated beats laced with chopped up whispers and unknown reverberations, this is tough! the 103 mix softens up the edges, a subtle underlying synth providing the mellowness essentially your morning-after dub version.
lead singer of award-winning band bloc party and dj/producer kele okereke has announced a new ep of original productions on crosstown rebels in november. the new heartbreaker ep from kele okereke features three original tracks and a superb remix by recondite.

it is a family affair as grimy returns with heat from the windy city known for amazing dance edits. tim mcallister takes it out the gate with *rollin*, a classic soul/disco beater replete with joyous flute trills, leslie speaker efx and a pumping house kick. in-demand newcomer cratebugs *get up move your body* is a spacious, cosmic edit of a little-remembered canadian gem. the song ends with an intuitive synth jam that will be enjoyed by djs and home listeners alike. longtime grimy associate rahaan ends things with a bang. his largely original *buari traxx* mixes ghanaian rhythms with killer disco bass and the nuanced, tracky drum programming you could find on a dancemania record. the brilliant track is built for the floor and also serves as an apt transition into grimy trax, a sister label that will release all new music. chicago is still burning.
late night tales and bonobo were pretty much made for each other, it just took them a while to both realise it. stepping forward into the compilers spotlight for the 33rd edition is simon green aka bonobo a musician, producer and dj perfectly suited to soundtrack an evening spent reclining to some parallel beats.

after his epic split with black deer, torn hawk comes back with a proper four track 12 inch, opening with an almost balearic/tropical, someone put something in my drink and i am melting house cut. trapdoor returns to wyatts skewed after school special add cali-speed freak bastard child drum machine/guitar lush not lushness. we get more end-titles on the b-side, as both songs could be the soundtracks for a night hanging in a parking lot drinking boxed wine and snorting ajax while auxilary police circle, threatening to harsh your mellow ... good times to say the least.
an brand new collaboration with sinden - get at, the soon to be a classic 23 that has just been used on flying lotus in-game radio station on grand theft auto v and dj set favourite rejected.
ltd 2015 repress!!!
finally we close the ep with woman, a track thats probably about as close as the ds boys get to a smooching torch song. lush pads and strings bring a deeper vibe to proceedings but the female spoken word samples keep the energy high and ensure things never stray too far from the floor.

NEW GERMAN ETHNIC MUSIC-IMMIGRANTS SONGS FROM GERMANY ELECTRONICALLY REWORKED
12 Inch 18.11.13
in the 1970s the american composer henry flynt started a series of pieces under the title >new american ethnic music<. in so doing he worked together native styles of music such as blues, country or hillbilly with electronic production methods to make something altogether new. so far in germany it has never been attempted to rework folklore electronically for a compilation. however, this picture changes if one redefines the idea of who the population is. incomers have brought new >national anthems< to germany, which means - even the portuguese fado, the african gnawa, the croatian klapa or the vietnamese quan ho are these days at home in germany. with the cultural project >heimatlieder aus deutschland< (native songs from germany) founded by former spex editor mark terkessidis and label manager jochen kühling all the various styles of traditional folk music now found in germany has been collected. thirteen of the songs recorded for the project have now been transformed by contemporary electronic producers to present a >new german ethnic music<. but why remixes? for one thing electronic music has recently focused a lot on the past (ghost music, hypnagogic pop etc.) electronic editing is well suited to follow the effects of the immigrant music which the >imaginary national anthems< has created. furthermore the projects instigators were curious how >electronic musicians< would handle folk music and folk songs which is a hugely difficult task. to this end artists were sought out who could get along with the idea of each music style and who are known to already have experimented with the human voice. the results are as varied as the music styles and djs involved. some melodies remain completely intact while others are abstracted beyond recognition. margaret dygas associative approach ensured that she presents a polish song about a girls arranged marriage with a claustrophobic feeling. with his remix of the marrabenta of mozambique mark ernestus has continued the rhythmic experiments he is known for with jeri jeri. thomas mahmoud translated gnawa into dub and finaly ulrich schnauss turned the song of the italian chorus of >donni so< into a hymn for the horizon-expanding power of migration.hopefully this compilation will also expand some horizons.
after successful ep on anton zaps ethereal sounds, well known moscow dj and producer sasha chizh is coming back with new day ep on plus seven records, where he is continuing to traveling slow and deep on the acid duby landscapes with authentic disco atmosphere, propagandizing the strictly and pure analog sound.
